Foundation of Sivananda Balakashram
Sivananda Balakashram in an extent of ten acre land is situated at the foot of the panoramic Tapkeshwari hills on the outskirts of Bhuj city.
In the devastating earthquake on the 26th January 2001, much of Kutch district was affected in which thousands of people died and thousands of buildings were destroyed. Hundreds of small children became orphans losing both their parents and their home. The government and various organisations came to the rescue of the survived.
Especially for the rehabilitation of those children, whose dreams were broken and whose life was filled with fear, hopelessness, disappointment, desperation, sorrow and sadness, Sivananda Math, a social and charitable organisation established by Swami Satyananda Saraswati in 1984, established Sivananda Balakashram (Sivananda Children's Home), With the help and co-operation of Yoga Foundation Kutch, well-wishers, Sahayogis and Karmayogis.
The construction was completed on April 2004. With a capacity to accommodate 100 children with well established rooms, kitchen, garden, vehicles and staff.
On the auspicious occasion of Guru Poornima held on 2nd July 2004, Sivananda Balakashram was inaugurated by Swami Niranjananda Saraswati. The first batch of children (Batuk) was inducted in his presence. Inducted of children is made regardless of caste, creed, religion and race.
During the Guru Poornima celebration at Bhuj-Kutch from 29th June to 2nd July 2004, Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati inaugurated the Sivananda Balakashram project.
